I have always been an active person. I participated in high school sports, I was lifting weights at my gym, going for walks, and was still training for and competing in Masters track and field at the age of 56 when the car crash happened. Suddenly I had to stop my physical training and doing the things I love to do. This sent me into a long downward spiral. Perhaps you have had something similar happen. A life-changing experience that suddenly changes the way you are accustomed to living. I think many of you may be able to relate to my story.
After the crash, I had several challenges that forced me into a more sedentary lifestyle. Back surgery and a handful of physical setbacks caused me to start eating for comfort. In three and a half years, my weight got up to 224 lbs. This was way above my normal weight of 170! I kept trying to lose the weight but had no luck. I would get injured or experience pain.
Finally, I found a solution that worked for me; walking! I started walking for ten to fifteen minutes two to three days a week. I was amazed that I was pain-free and sustained no injuries. Gradually, I increased the number of minutes and days I walked topping out at walking for thirty minutes, five to six days a week. Now my weight is back down to 170 lbs. This walking regimen worked for me, and I know it can work for you! This is why I created Boomer Fitness with Michael G.
